An affiliate of the Virginia Education Association, the Arlington Education Association is an organization of members, including teachers and educational support personnel. The Association serves as an advocate for its members by meeting regularly with Arlington Public Schools administration and School Board members to discuss working conditions, instruction, benefits and wages. There are three full-time professionals on site, including a full-time release president, an executive director and an administrative assistant, who are dedicated to providing excellent service to AEA members. AEA is governed by a democratically elected Executive Board and Delegate Assembly each of which meets once a month to address issues of importance to members.

Opportunities abound in Arlington County for educational personnel to be involved in actions that affect the schools and students of Arlington. Committees give an opportunity to focus on a particular topic of interest or need. They provide a chance to network with members from other schools, the community, the administration, and the School Board. Some roles require only one meeting or two; some need monthly attention; while others can be done electronically. Please look over the opportunities below, and then let AEA President Shelley Jennings know what interests you. Email her at president@aeava.org or call 703-379-1650.
